Meet Carlos & Lauren Rigau

This is the true story of Carlos Rigau, a News PhotoJournalist and his adventures chasing news stories around the world throughout nearly forty years. Carlos’ eye has seen the good, the bad and the ugly... Literally!

From civil unrest and riots to interviewing Presidents and Prime Ministers, Carlos has captured it all. The array of notoriety for his work, ranges from Emmy Awards to a Silver Angel Award... Along the way his eye has captured images that have touched the lives of so many.

From images of children crying and refugees fleeing oppression to the glory of the Athletic games. To us the world is shown through the looking glass of our TV, on the other side of that glass, is a camera and what that camera has seen, inspired this book.
Along the way, Carlos had a baby girl, and just weeks after she was born, he was off to South Korea-- “So that is Papa’s cue, to pack his shoes and go chase the clues...”

Growing up in a world bustling with Breaking News from the second she was born, Carlos’s daughter LaLa, knew that writing about her father’s adventures was the only solution.

After spending a year volunteering to teach children in low-income schools about the love of reading, LaLa was inspired to turn all of her Papa’s memories into a Children’s book!

LaLa hopes this book will inspire children to get to know the world around them, all the while understanding the responsibility of News gathering and those who gather it.

Before there were 140 Character stories... There were 140 steps taken to gather a story... This is THAT story.

Meet Illustrator AnnMarie Rapach

AnnMarie is an Artist / Art Director who works out of her studio in Greensboro, NC. Not limited to any particular medium, she finds welding, painting, photography, and creating art with alternative processes to be the most intriguing. Known for her love of color, she is always looking for ways to incorporate interesting color combinations in her work.

Since the age of 2, AnnMarie wanted to become an artist. Inspired by the works of Georgia O’Keefe, Claude Monet, Vincent Van Gogh, and English Fantasy Illustrator- Brian Froud (Labyrinth, Dark Crystal)... She was fortunate enough to have art classes in the public schools she attended, which taught her the basics of drawing, painting, and sculpting.

At age 12, AnnMarie received her first laptop from a technology school program and was inspired to find a way to combine art and computers— that is when her mom introduced her to graphic design. A new career goal was born! Rapach attended Ringling College of Art and Design, studying Graphic and Interactive Communications, and after her time at school she relocated to Miami, FL to pursue her career in Graphic Design, and did so successfully for over 10 years.

Rapach felt there was something missing in her life, she left her job as a Creative Director to pursue her true calling, becoming an artist. This is when fate would have it, she met Lauren Rigau through a mutual friend, the two found instant similarities in their stories of being inspired by career goals at a very young age, which in turn translated flawlessly into this book.

AnnMarie recently relocated to Greensboro, NC where she works as an Art Director, creating art out of her studio. Her passion is creation, with no limitation on medium, she is always looking to expand her work with alternative processes, pushing the barriers of colors and gradients.

This book was created using hand drawn sketches on vellum, scanned and then digitally painted using Adobe Photoshop CC.
